Wentworth Falls Football Club

WAY OF THE WARRIORS

From starting out playing social football since 1975, growing to affiliation as a club with the Nepean association in 1983, the club has steadily grown to an all year round operation by hosting both a Winter and Summer competition.

Our home ground, Pitt Park, went through a major overhaul in 2007 giving us a beautiful new playing surface boasting the largest size field on the mountain and lit by 100 lux floodlights for night games.

In 2021 the building of the new clubhouse was completed!

We support and encourage all young people in the area by offering the opportunity to play the game of football from the youngest level to the highest level possible whilst maintaining our core values of Fun, Fitness, Fairplay and Friendship.

So that is one field what about the rest? Surely games can be moved if need be but also, that is ground water as it was just raining. That will seep into the ground. Surely instead of making a blanket decision it could have been on a case by case basis???

What the Club needs to understand is that the current regime will no doubt see a significant decline in players at Wenty. Why do I say this? So far we’re tracking close to average for rainfall. May was higher, but that was in the first week or so, June was 10mm above average and July is tracking close to average. So we can reliably now say that the decision making environment is one which is not fit for purpose for our climate and our topography. When we find ourselves in a situation where a 15 minute wintry shower closes the fields, we may as well give up. The decisions to close are a sledgehammer response; there is no nuance, there is no recognition that an environment which is borderline for a 16 year old to play could be perfectly safe for a nine year old. A dichotomy of closed/open fails to recognise that there is a wide spectrum of players and ages and what might be unsuitable for some may well be suitable for others. And this will have a disproportionate impact on those younger players. Why? Because they’re at stages where there are multiple sports competing for their attention; they’re not always developed sufficiently to counter and weigh the pros and cons and come to reconcile their disappointment with the greater good (personally or community); they haven’t yet developed the obsession that will carry them through a poor season and their games aren’t rescheduled. When our team has only played 5 of 12, that’s it, they’re not going to make up those games. So we find ourselves in an environment where the Association and the Club are making decisions which are, in all likelihood, going to be turning players away and see players not return next season. And so then we will see costs increase (as the fixed costs are spread over an ever diminishing number of players) for what is already an expensive sport. All of this is within the Club’s and/or Association’s control to change. So what’s the plan??

This is so incredibly disappointing that all games have been cancelled for the rest of the day. With this wind around, the grounds will dry up a bit before our 12pm game.

Wentworth Falls FC this is so disappointing. This is not a safety issue. We need a new set of decision makers…

for those people that are making complaints about the weather and grounds being closed can always come along to the AGM at the end of the year and volunteer on the committee for 2025 and help out intead of complaning about the weather and the fields

wont be complaing if it is your kids getting broken ankles or legs due to unsafe playing conditions
